Events in Monmouth

Fly-In Breakfast. This long running event takes place on every 4th of July at the Monmouth Municipal Airport. Hosted by the Monmouth Flying Club as their main fundraiser, this event brings in pilots and planes from all over the Midwest. There is a fresh-cooked breakfast and a performance from the Monmouth City Band.

Maple City Street Machines Cruise Night. Held the first Friday of August every year, this event brings in thousands of classic and restored cars and hot rods to the downtown area. Tens of thousands of visitors flock the streets to see the collectable cars, listen to live music and enjoy great food cooked right on the Square.

Prime Beef Festival. The Prime Beef Festival starts on the Wednesday after Labor Day every September with a large parade down Broadway. The event takes place from Wednesday through Saturday at Monmouth Park and features carnival rides, games, food, live music, demolition derbies, a strong-man competition and a Princess pageant. Music and Entertainment

Maple Leaf Community Concert Series. This music series brings in singers and musicians from all over the country to perform at the Monmouth College Dahl Chapel and Auditorium. Tickets are available from the Buchanan Center for the Arts.

Market Alley Music Days. This is a summer music and lunch event put on by the Monmouth Business Council. It runs from late May through early August on the second and fourth Wednesdays. The event takes place in Market Alley, just off the Public Square, from 11:30 a.m to 1 p.m. The music is free and local restaurants sell boxed lunches.

Visual Arts

Buchanan Center for the Arts. The Buchanan Center for the Arts is housed in an historic building on the square in downtown Monmouth. Their gallery features 2,400 sq. ft. of exhibition space, artisan gift shop, and a large studio for classes, meetings, and other arts-related and community events. Len G. Everett Galleries. The Len G. Everett Galleries are located on the upper level of the Monmouth College library. Gallery 203 displays a distinguished collection of art and antiquities. Gallery 204 is the larger of the two galleries. It showcases student artwork and exhibitions of regional and national artists.

Museums

Warren County History Museum. Located at 238 South Sunny Lane, the history museum features many exhibits of local history and agriculture. Closed during the winter months. 

Warren County Virtual Museum. The online Warren County Virtual Museum project seeks to make the past come alive through rich media and broadband content delivery, creating both an exciting regional educational opportunity and a dynamic historic resource to enhance citizen participation in the past story and future civic life of our regional communities. Performing Arts

Wells Theater. Monmouth College’s Wells Theater is a $1.8 million state-of-the-art theater space that opened in 1990.  It features computerized lighting control, a counterweighted fly system, large scenic and costume studios, a design studio with a CAD system and plotter as well as several Mac computers, and computerized front-of-house operations.  Crimson Masque, the department’s drama society, involves well over 100 students each year in four faculty directed productions.
